I was reading an article from the Chicago Tribune the other day, an article written by some reporter who was doing a write-up about coffee served in Chicago-area diners. At one point the writer suggested that the coffee he was tasting at one diner “smelled like a wet, brown paper bag. Definitely not the most flattering description of a cup of coffee! That’s what the British say, you know . . . instead of a cup of coffee, they say a cuppa, meaning a cup of whatever they are serving. The word is actually believed to be Irish in origin, if you want to split hairs, but it is quite popular in Jolly Old England as well. So what do you say? Won’t you join us for a cuppa Claddagh Coldbrew tomorrow at the Tumwater Farmers Market? I drove by a famous fast food restaurant the other day, and quick glance at their rather large menu on display told me that coffee was available for $1. Nice price for a cup of Joe! We can’t match it and never will be able to match it. How’s that for reverse advertising? We can’t compete with fast food restaurants and we don’t want to. We are a small, local, premium coffee producer, and as such we must be realistic. Producing our coffee involves high costs. Those costs are passed on You Get What You Pay For Scott Ensign 09/06/2018
